ADOLESCENT MOTIVATION AND HIGHER EDUCATION: PREFERENCES OF CHOICE IN UNIVERSITY
Abstract
This article analyzes the main aspects that influence the academic trajectory of students in the last year of high school in the city of Tarija. Firstly, the text presents a study of university careers of 2,625 high school students, developed by the Universidad Privada Domingo Savio (Bolivia) in an international agreement with the University of Burgos (Spain), which analyzes the reasons for entering the University, their vision and alternatives for the future, considering in a special way the elements of motivation, decisions in relation to entering the University and preferential careers of young people from Tarije. Secondly, a comparison is made between the decisions about the Academic future of these adolescents, which serves as an assessment prior to the implementation of a Professional Academic Orientation Program carried out by a Spanish orientation team in teaching centers in the Chaco region. The degree of decision-making and responsibility adopted by the students is observed. The results show the lack of knowledge about work options, a consequence of the null orientation of the educational system, negatively influencing the potentials and personal goals. In conclusion, there are proposals that can help to favor and improve the access and transition processes of high school graduates to university.
