AS The 2013 manifestations in Brazil in the light of the Arab Spring and European popular movements
Abstract
This paper aims at making a brief analysis of popular demonstrations that took place in the Middle East [Arab Spring], in Spain [Movimento 15M or Movimento dos Indignados] and in Brazil [Jornadas de Junho] in the first years of the second decade of the 21st century, pointing out similarities and highlighting the particularities of the protests that happened in Brazilian lands. It is understood that the movements occurred in Brazil were directly and indirectly influenced by the Arab Spring, especially regarding forms of popular mobilization. In Brazil, however, the multiplicity of agendas and demands gave the demonstrations a unique perspective, generating a new mindset related to the popular political and social participation.
